Stake’s Ed Craven lures tech talent with hefty sign-on bonuses
The youngest billionaire in Australia and co-founder of crypto gambling platform Stake.com, Ed Craven, has recently become a major player in the tech industry by offering sign-on bonuses of up to $100,000.
His aim is to attract talent from other tech giants such as Atlassian and Canva so that they can work for his cryptocurrency and gambling companies which are expanding at an unprecedented rate, reported Australian media outlet The Herald Sun.
EasyGo Solutions, a company co-founded by Bijan Tehrani and Craven, is behind this scheme. Situated in Melbourne, it is offering competitive salaries, with senior or principal software engineers able to earn up to 20% more than what they could make anywhere else. EasyGo Solutions also covers relocation costs for interstate employees who wish to join their team.
Dave Lemphers, chief technology officer at EasyGo Solutions said it was absolutely necessary that they do this because of their hyperscale growth. He went on to say that companies such as Canva, Microsoft, Amazon and Google already have experience with scaling so EasyGo Solutions is looking to tap into this talent pool of employees who already have experience with scaling complex systems.
To entice these individuals, EasyGo Solutions will be handing out sign-on fees ranging between AUD50,000 and AUD100,000 depending on negotiation during the interview process. This move follows predictions made by industry experts which state there will be 300,000 fewer IT professionals available within Australia by 2030.
However, EasyGo Solutions is not solely focused on high salaries and big bonus payouts when luring staff onboard. Over the last few years alone office spaces at Collins Street, Melbourne, grew tenfold from humble beginnings with only two people occupying a single small room to now employing well over 300 staff members in Australia.
EasyGo is not the only successful venture Craven has co-founded. Together with Tehrani he also started crypto gambling platform Stake.com, which is currently the largest crypto casino in the world. The platform handles about $400m worth of transactions per day.
However, due to crypto gambling being banned within Australia, EasyGo has diversified its investments by taking a substantial position within ASX-listed online bookmaker PointsBet.
The company recently applied for a bookmaking license within the Northern Territory. Craven and Tehrani also created a new entity called “Stake Gaming” registered through the Australian Securities & Investments Commission. However, that did not go too well as share trading platform HelloStake.com filed a claim of trademark infringement.
